GERMINATION
IT ALL STARTS WITH A SEED
Germinating cannabis seeds is the first and one of the most crucial steps in growing a healthy plant. Here’s a reliable and straightforward method using simple materials to get your seeds to sprout successfully.
GERMINATION INSTRUCTIONS
Materials Needed:
- Cannabis seeds
- Sandwich box
- Paper towels
- Figi water
- Baby distilled water
Step-by-Step Process:
Prepare the Paper Towel and Box:
- Take a paper towel and dampen it with a 50/50 mix of Figi water and baby distilled water. This combination of water ensures the right balance of minerals to help the seed pop.
- Make sure the paper towel is thoroughly moistened but not soaking wet.
Place the Seeds:
- Place your cannabis seeds between the moistened layers of the paper towel.
- Fold the paper towel gently around the seeds, leaving some space for air and moisture flow.
Store in a Sandwich Box:
- Place the paper towel with seeds inside a sandwich box. This helps create a humid and controlled environment.
- Ensure the paper towel stays moist throughout the process. Do not let it dry out—this is key to successful germination. Check the paper towel daily and mist it with more of your water mix if needed.
Monitor Daily:
- Check your seeds every day to ensure the paper towel remains moist. After about 48-72 hours, the seeds should begin to crack and show a tiny white root, commonly called a “tail.” If you’re working with older seeds like Cement Shoes Crosses or Pink Runtz Crosses (which may be 3-4 years old), be patient, as they might take more time to germinate.
Transplanting:
- Once the tail is around half an inch long, it’s time to transplant the seed into your growing medium.
- Handle the seed gently and place it about ¼ inch deep in your soil or growing medium, tail pointing downward. This will help it grow correctly into a healthy seedling.
Things to Remember:
- Older Seeds May Take Longer: Seeds that are older, such as Cement Shoes Crosses or Pink Runtz Crosses, often take more time to germinate. Don’t rush the process! It can take longer than the standard 48-72 hours, so give them additional time.
- Keep Seeds Moist: The most important part of germination is making sure the paper towel does not dry out. Keeping the seeds consistently moist ensures successful sprouting.
By following these steps, you’ll set yourself up for success and give your cannabis seeds the best chance to grow into strong and healthy plants.
We do not recommend soaking seeds in a jar of water for germination. While some growers still use this method, it can oversaturate the seed and hinder its ability to absorb oxygen, potentially leading to rot. The paper towel method is more controlled and provides the seeds with the right balance of moisture and air, resulting in higher success rates. Stick with the paper towel technique for the best results!
